About

about me with wood pellets

Hi, my name is Dee,, and I started Chef’s Magnet (dee@chefsmagnet.com) to help others learn everything about pellet grilling from my years of experience and continual research. As the pellet grilling market grew,, I’ve found it necessary to bring a resource to you to help answer your questions. I also envisioned a place where fellow pellet smokers can share recipes. Armed with my analytical brain and love of research, I created chefsmagnet.com to bring my vision to life.

I’m a husband and father of 2 kids who love to taste everything I cook. However, my skills weren’t always what they are today. When I moved out of my parent’s home to go to college,, my mom needed to teach me how to make mac & cheese. That,, along with ramen,, became staples of my diet. I even managed to ruin frozen lasagna. Tip, don’t leave it in the oven with the door closed after it’s done cooking so it’ll stay warm when you’re ready to eat an hour later.

Born and raised in Calgary, Canada,, I was a very picky eater and didn’t care or think about food that much. We never owned a smoker,, and occasionally my parents would use the propane grill. I didn’t discover smoked food until I moved to the states to attend college.

I fell in love with BBQ right away. When I discovered a Traeger pellet grill,, I was fascinated. I spoke to the salesman in Costco for an hour. I didn’t have the money to buy one then but saved up for a year and purchased my first pellet grill, Traeger, at that same Costco.

Since that time I’ve owned both a Traeger and Camp Chef and have smoked countless items.
